Change is in the air

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but rarely do people think of changing themselves. Sometimes the changes that occur around us are needed to make us change. So, when change is in the air, take a deep breath!

Remember what it was like to show up at the airport, pick up your ticket and jump on a plane to wherever? Back in the days when you’d load as many suitcases as you could fit in your hands? Those were the times you could take just about any gift or exotic artifact on your lap and make sure it arrived safely. Today when you need to take a 30-minute flight you go through a 35-minute line, take your shoes off, your belt, any items in your pockets, laptop out of the bag (in its own container) and you walk through a mega construction of technology that takes a color picture powerful enough to light up your intestines!. All the while you are hoping no buzzer goes off because if it does, you get the frisk down, then a sample wiped off you and checked on the computer. That alone generally takes another 10 minutes and then another 10 minutes is spent packing your bags up again because the officer tore into your stuff and couldn’t repack the bag you’d carefully jammed full of stuff because they only let you take one tiny bag on the plane with you. When did air travel become such a traumatic nightmare? Just one day in history in 2001 on the 11th of September. The world of air travel was changed forever.

There are a great many things that are undergoing change as we speak. Each day is full of surprises. We know what to do when the weather changes, turn the temperature up. We know when the electricity is cut off, to turn on the generator, light some candles. We know how to deal with bad traffic… take a detour. We know how to deal with change because we deal with it every day. Change is a thing of life.

Then you get something like COVID-19 pop up without a second’s notice. Way too soon, our structured, in-control-lives are nothing but ‘dust in the wind‘. All of a sudden everything you once held important has either vanished or seriously missing its appeal. Possibly, for the first time ever, everything you hold dear is sitting around your kitchen table asking “what do we do now?”. The old book up on the shelf that you used to love to read comes to mind as incredibly relevant all of a sudden…

Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

James 4:14

So why not, change is in the air. Why not adapt in a good way, the best possible way. Why not let today be the first day of a wonderful rest of your life walking with Jesus. The value of having a good relationship with Christ is so far above anything life can throw your way.

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ

Philippians 3:8 NLT

Now that the value of life, possessions, work, family, friends, and God is front and center in your mind, why put off that which you’ve longed for; to spend a little more time with your spouse, your family and most of all, to know God better? There’s no better time than this because I am certain a lot of the typical distractions are presently removed.

Discover for yourself that the LORD is kind. Come to him for protection, and you will be glad.

Psalm 34:8 CEV

God desires to have a deepening relationship with you. That’s why He sent His Son!

“Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

John 17:24 NKJV

and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

John 17:26

You are His, having been gifted to Jesus by the Father. You are part of a special gift God gave to His Son so that His glory would be seen.

who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Titus 2:14

Christ gave himself for us so that He could give Himself to us. You are not your own. You’re bought at the cost of life. Someone paid capital punishment because they wanted to demonstrate their love for you! (Rom 5:8)

Remember the prodical son’s father when the young man finally came to his senses? The father had been profoundly affected by his son going away. On his return he ran to meet him and love on him. He washed him and dressed him and gave him a hero’s welcome! That’s your heavenly Father and because of Christ, you are a hero to him. Will you let Him love on you? Will you allow Him to get closer to you?
